City of Novato enjoys peace of mind with TRAKiT

The Community Development and Public Works Departments of the City of Novato, California recently implemented the TRAKiT software suite, developed by CRW Systems, Inc., to automate their permit tracking and associated fee collection. In October 2008, the City went live with PermitTRAK, ProjectTRAK, CodeTRAK, and MobileTRAK. TRAKiT has improved workflow and reporting capabilities in many areas for the City.
TRAKiT streamlined the over the counter permit process making it quicker and efficient. The City processes nearly three dozen over the counter permit applications on high traffic days, and TRAKiT has provided the City with peace of mind that the process will not keep the public waiting. "It's good to know the system is working for you; it creates less pressure," explained Karyn Harrington, Office Supervisor for Community Development.
Harrington has seen improvements in her workflow, especially with TRAKiT's Financial Information functions. With their previous system, users computed fees manually using a calculator or spreadsheet. TRAKiT has simplified the fee assignment process for all users at the City by allowing them to assess fees based on permit type and grouping together fees of various inspection or permit types. "TRAKiT far exceeds my expectations in the area of complex calculation," said Harrington.
According to Harrington, the numerous standard reports are working well for the City of Novato. Users appreciate how all data from tables can be turned into forms and reports including (Custom) data fields. Additionally, the agency-specific custom reports created by Christina Adaska, CRW Project Manager, as part of the implementation process have met the reporting needs of both management and users.
Novato selected CRW because the City needs a robust system that is configurable to their business. Additionally, eTRAKiT will provide the City with an online permitting system which allows the public to access data - a feature their previous system did not allow. They are happy with their choice to use TRAKiT and believe CRW support has been exceptional. The City also looks forward to the upcoming launch of an additional TRAKiT Module-VoiceTRAKiT, an Interactive Voice Response system integration between TRAKiT and Selectron Technologies to allow access via a telephone touchtone keypad. Both modules will provide services for public inquiries and requests.
