Kootenai County implements TRAKiT, improves access to information
September 6, 2007
The Building and Planning Department of Kootenai County, Idaho recently implemented the TRAKiT software suite, developed by CRW Systems, Inc., to manage their building development processes. In July, the County went live with PermitTRAK, ProjectTRAK, CodeTRAK, LandTRAK, AEC TRAK, and MobileTRAK, and they will soon be launching eTRAKiT, a public access, Web-based application. Kootenai County selected TRAKiT to replace a 20 year old, text-based system, and they are enjoying the benefits of their new system.
Jack Duffield, Kootenai Senior Programmer and Analyst, assisted with the implementation and is now a TRAKiT system administrator in Kootenai. Because of the age of their former system, Duffield was expecting to field more support calls than he has. Instead, the transition has been surprisingly smooth as staff members have found TRAKiT easy to use. “All the information they need is very easily accessible and easy to find,” said Duffield.
In particular, the County is enjoying the Related Records function in LandTRAK—which allows users to view all the permits, projects, and cases associated with a property on one screen—as well as the extensive reporting capabilities of TRAKiT. Kootenai building inspectors are using MobileTRAK to access and modify inspections information on their laptops while in the field. Inspectors are also taking advantage of the batch scheduling function, which saves time and effort by allowing multiple inspections to be entered on the same screen. From a support perspective, Duffield appreciates the convenience and ease of the administrative tools provided within TRAKiT.
Duffield credits the CRW team, including James Williamson and Randy Riggs (Trainers), Christina Adaska (Project Manager), and Dan Haynes (Technical Support), for helping to ease the transition for staff members. “The customer service has been exemplary,” said Duffield, who complemented CRW’s on-site support during the go-live process as well as their continued responsiveness over the phone. Adaska responded, “We strive for providing excellent customer service and assuring that our clients’ needs are met.” But Adaska noted that Duffield and the Kootenai team also deserve credit for the successful and on-time project completion. “They were always available, and I think that’s what’s essential,” said Adaska.
Among the reasons Kootenai County selected CRW were TRAKiT’s flexibility, affordability, and focus on the needs of local governments, including permitting, project management, and parcel data. As a former architect and civil engineer, CRW President and Founder Christopher Wuerz takes pride in providing solutions for local governments. “We’re excited about having Kootenai County as part of our growing list of clients who are realizing the benefits of state-of-the-art automation for streamlining their operations. We especially welcome Kootenai County as our first client in the state of Idaho,” said Wuerz.
