Hillsborough expands TRAKiT, looks to the future

The Town of Hillsborough, California recently expanded their implementation of TRAKiT, a software suite developed by CRW Systems, Inc., and they are enjoying the ease, speed, and flexibility of their new system. The Town has been using PermitTRAK, LandTRAK, and AEC TRAK since January and they went live with BusinessTRAK, an application that manages business and occupational licenses, in June.
Marie Bernardo, Hillsborough Assistant Finance Director, is seeing the advantages of integrated applications. In particular, she points out how other departments can now access financial data from their desktop, decreasing information requests and increasing productivity.
Bernardo is also benefiting from the ease and flexibility of the reporting capabilities in TRAKiT, especially as compared to her technically challenging and time consuming previous system. She sees endless possibilities in the flexibility of custom reporting and has already saved time by processing her annual business license renewals through BusinessTRAK. “With BusinessTRAK, it is there. All you have to do is click the button and it’s there. It’s very simple,” said Bernardo.
The BusinessTRAK implementation, which included the development of several custom reports for the Town, was accomplished remotely by CRW Project Manager Christina Adaska. Adaska was able to perform most of the installation after business hours, having a minimum impact on Bernardo’s day while still keeping her informed of the progress. “Christina is always there and communicated with me the whole time,” said Bernardo. For Adaska, the remote implementation was a first, and she was glad that it was so successful. “It was great that Marie was involved,” said Adaska, “she was a pleasure to work with.”
With plans to take better advantage of custom reporting, Bernardo has a positive outlook for the future of Hillsborough. She advises other municipalities to be proactive when it comes to new technology and their data management needs. Bernardo believes that TRAKiT has a short learning curve because it is user friendly, flexible, and designed specifically to meet the needs of local governments. Adaska also emphasizes the availability of CRW’s extensive training services, which include classroom training for TRAKiT users and system administrators as well as comprehensive user guides, context-sensitive help, and Web-based tutorials.
