TRAKiT improves communication in Montrose

July 2, 2007

The City of Montrose, CO is improving their communicaton through technology. On December 1, 2006, the Community Development Department implemented PermitTRAK and ProjectTRAK, two applications in the TRAKiT software suite developed by CRW Systems, Inc, to manage permits and projects. They replaced an outdated system of paper files and spreadsheets, and they are already seeing the benefits of their new software.

TRAKiT has opened the lines of communication between staff members by providing centralized data management. “Now, I have access to the status of all projects,” said Garry Baker, Montrose Senior Planner. Baker is also enjoying the built-in tracking features of the Chronology screen, which allows staff members to track official actions and phone calls, make notes, and attach electronic files, such as plans and contracts, on a single screen.

According to Baker, TRAKiT has also improved his ability to answer public inquiries, a fact that has Baker looking to expand the City’s implementation. “Personally, I would like [the City of Montose] to use CRM TRAK, because I can really see the value of recording all citizen inquiries.” CRM TRAK, which stands for Citizen Response Management, is integrated with other TRAKiT applications, allowing staff to follow up on citizen requests efficiently as well as identify common issues and resolve them effectively.

Montrose selected TRAKiT in August 2006 after an extensive search for a new system. Among their reasons for choosing TRAKiT were its user-friendly interface and well organized features as well as CRW’s commitment to customer service. Debra Mueller, CRW Project Manager for the Montrose implementation, explained her personal commitment to her clients, “No matter how long someone has been a client, when they call, I try to address their issues immediately...[so that] it doesn’t affect their ability to provide customer service to their citizens.”
